Appraiser Licenses

Be careful - Know what you're getting!  There are four levels of appraiser license:

"AT" Trainee; must be supervised in all work.  Appraiser's reports must be reviewed and signed by a Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser.

"AL" Licensed; can do residential up to $1M and 1-4 unit residential income properties; residential work over $1M requires the signature of a Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser.  Income properties having more than four units and other forms of commercial property must be signed by a Certified General Appraiser.

"AR" Certified Residential; can do all residential work of any value and 1-4 unit residential income properties.  Income properties having more than four units and other forms of commercial property must be reviewed and signed by a Certified General Appraiser.

"AG"  Certified General; can do all residential and commercial work, limited only by education and experience.

All appraisers at Desert Cities Appraisers are at certified levels.

Designations

There is a variety of designations that may be given to appraisers.  Some of the most widely recognized are:

"MAI",  "SRA" and "SRPA" are designations given by the Appraisal Institute.

"CCIM" is a designation given by the CCIM Institute.

"MRICS" is: "Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors."
